Presentation

Snecma covers a large part of the civil aviation market, primarily through CFM International, an equal joint venture of Snecma of France and General Electric of the United States. The CFM56® engine family is the world’s best-selling commercial aircraft engine, and the most reliable of its generation, with dispatch reliability approaching 100%. Covering the thrust range from 18,500 to 34,000 pounds, CFM56 engines have been an exceptional commercial success, powering many different models of both Airbus and Boeing jetliners.

Since it was founded more than 35 years ago, CFM International has continuously improved these engines by incorporating the latest technologies. It also integrates evolving market requirements, especially for lower noise and emissions, which has proven a key to its success and global reputation.

The CFM56® family offers the widest range of engines in its thrust class, covering both civil and military aircraft.

CFM56-2 engines power various military aircraft: the Boeing KC-135, C135-FR and KE-3 tankers, and C3I aircraft such as the Boeing E3, AWACS, E6 and RC-135R, as well as reengined DC-8 Super 70 transport and cargo aircraft.

CFM56-3, sole-source powerplant for the Boeing 737 Classic. Because of its remarkable reliability, this engine helped the CFM56 family carve out a solid position in the global market for single-aisle commercial jets with 100 to 200 seats.

CFM56-5A/CFM56-5B engines power aircraft in the Airbus A320 family. The CFM56-5B has been offered since 1995 with the double annular combustor (DAC), which cuts nitrogen oxides (NOx) by 40% to help protect our environment.

CFM56-5C power the Airbus A340 long-haul quadjet. This is the most powerful engine in the range, and also one of the quietest in its thrust class.

CFM56-7, powerplant for the Boeing 737 Next Generation models, as well as the Boeing Business Jet.

The upgraded CFM56 Tech Insertion version has powered Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 jetliners since 2007, when it became the production standard for all CFM56-7B and CFM56-5B engines.
