Design, assembly and testing of jet engines, marketing and sales
Snecma’s Villaroche plant, 50 kilometers southeast of Paris, is the leading industrial employer in the Seine-et-Marne department. Created in 1947 for the ground and flight testing of commercial and military engines, the Villaroche plant spans some 82 hectares (203 acres) in the middle of the Brie plains. Villaroche has undergone considerable growth since then, becoming a major center for aeronautical design and testing.
In the early 1970s, flight testing was transferred to the Istres air base, while engine assembly operations were transferred from Evry-Corbeil to Villaroche in the early 1980s.
The Villaroche site now houses the Commercial Engine Division (assembly, testing, marketing and sales) and the Military Engine Division (assembly and testing), as well as the engineering department (research, design, development and certification of engines).
Hispano-Suiza, another SAFRAN Group company, also has activities at the Villaroche site.
The engines assembled at Villaroche are delivered to aircraft manufacturers and air force bases.
A link between past and future
The Villaroche site is host to the SAFRAN Museum, housed in a hangar that was once used to prepare engines on “flying testbeds” (aircraft used for flight testing). Founded in 1989, the museum gives visitors a comprehensive look at the technical advances that have marked the history of the oldest aircraft engine manufacturer in the world. Industrial expertise
Aircraft manufacturers, airlines and air forces demand the very best technologies so that they can deploy a fleet combining high dispatch reliability with low cost of ownership.
The Engineering department at Villaroche counts more than 2,500 engineers, technicians and management staff to handle all aspects of research, design and development.
Villaroche’s technicians and line workers perform all fitting, final assembly and testing operations before delivery to the customer.
Villaroche has 12 engine test rigs, including the GE90 rig that is one of the two biggest indoor test cells in Europe, plus another forty component test facilities.
Commercial expertise
CFM56, the world’s best selling engine Our sales staff are in charge of marketing, sales and follow-up for CFM56 engines, on behalf of CFM International, an equally-owned subsidiary of Snecma and General Electric. CFM International is the world leader in commercial engines for mainline jets (over 100 seats). Snecma’s sales staff keep their fingers on the pulse of the market to anticipate requirements, and at the same time work hand in hand with Snecma’s Research and Development teams.
Branching out
The cutting-edge technologies developed for our engines is also on offer to a broad range of customers, whether in the aerospace industry or other sectors. These technologies span research laboratories, steel-making, mechanical engineering, energetics and other disciplines. Villaroche sales staff offer a variety of services to industry, including technical investigations, audits, inspections and development tests or studies.
Safety / Environment
Villaroche, like all Snecma plants, plays an active role in the environmental protection policy pursued by the company and the SAFRAN Group.
Villaroche is ISO 14001 certified. Production facilities, workshops, laboratories and test benches are designed and managed according to their impact on the local environment, including compliance with standards for noise and clean soil, subsoil, waterways and air, along with reduced energy consumption. Further upstream, new product development programs integrate environmental aspects right from the design stage.
