New Vinci rocket engine sets a record during first test in 2006
Vinci M2 engines continued a series of tests in Germany, each time moving forward towards validation of this new upper-stage cryogenic engine. On January 20, the Vinci M2 cryogenic engine logged a particularly successful test. During a test lasting 350 seconds - fully half of the nominal flight time - the engine’s hydrogen turbopump reached a speed of 88,000 RPM. The next milestone is a test of the engine fitted with the upper section of the extendable nozzle made of a carbon-carbon composite.
