Innovation & Research

An imperative for Snecma

Research and innovation are key to Snecma’s strategy and long-term development, and we invest the human and financial resources needed.

This investment results in a number of innovative solutions incorporated in our products and processes, enabling us to deliver high-performance engines, equipment and modules to our customers and partners.

For example, the LEAP engine, the new-generation engine from CFM International (the 50/50 company of Snecma and GE), features a revolutionary new technology: fan blades made of a woven composite material using the resin transfer molding (RTM) process, for a significant reduction in weight that in turn reduces fuel consumption and nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions.

Through the protection of these new technologies and the development of new products, Snecma seeks to maintain and develop its position in increasingly competitive markets. For instance, we continue to develop a broad range of high-quality patented technologies covering current and future products.

With more than 350 patented inventions every year, Snecma is one of the leaders in France, and in the aerospace sector in general.

The significant rise in patents filed in recent years clearly reflects Snecma’s ongoing focus on technological excellence, spanning both products and processes.

Along with the research carried out by specialists, Snecma allows ample room for all employees to express their creativity, based on a Participative Innovation approach. In addition to the annual Group award for the best patented idea, Snecma recognizes our employees’ innovation in terms of products, services, organization, operation, security and working conditions, with the best ideas awarded during an annual ceremony.
